Puma V8 proposal

Back in 2003 Gabriel Uttley was working on breaking the record with a previous team. Here is a picture of the proposed bike.

It was to have used a 2.6 litre V8 Puma engine. You can read more on our press page.

Tim Albone from Maysmith Engineering has kindly offered to make our flywheel! He met Dan and I in January, and was immediately enthusiastic about the project. He was really taken with the idea of helping us in any way he could, and he embodies the spirit of the project! Thnaks very much!

Stu, Arron, Dan, Martin and I had a very productive day on Sunday. Due to Dan’s great work we have secured not one but three clutches! As a result, Martin, Arron and Dan have produced the design for the bellhousing and flywheel to match up. Stu is making good progress with the chassis tubes, aided by Martin’s stirling work in drawing out the components. Roger is going to buy the material for the three engine shafts this week, and other components are being drawn out to get made.

Our thanks go to Molan UK, who supplied us with a flat sheet of polycarbonate sheeting to make the screen for the mock-up streamliner you can see in previous posts.

You’ll notice that the bodywork is curved above and below the front of the screen which is difficult to make with a flat sheet. For the actual streamliner, we can either make the screen bigger and incorporate these bends into the screen, or keep them in the bodywork. Alot will depend on visibility from testing the mock-up and the aerodynamic advantages of the curved screen.

SolidWorks training, Sheffield

Martin, Jim & Arron

Last week, Arron, Martin and I attended the SolidSolutions Sheffield Office for basic training in Solidworks 3D CAD modelling software. We were very impressed by the capabilities of the software and the speed at which 3D CAD models can be made.

The project is providing plenty of opportunity to practice using Solidworks to model parts of the streamliner, and we hope to be sharing these images with our supporters in due course.

We’d like to pass on our thanks to the staff at Solidworks and SolidSolutions, especially the course instructor, Elliot.
