Jim Brown

Jim Brown

Lincoln engineer Jim Brown is managing the analytical engineering side of this project to ensure the bike has the performance to reach its goal. Jim left his Engineering Manager position at Siemens Gas Turbines in September to devote more time to the project. It was a tough decision, but I strongly believe this is a worthwhile and feasible endeavour. The variety of engineering in a project like this is phenomenal and a great deal of work is required to ensure we reach our goal of breaking the World Record.

Jim caught the land speed-racing bug whilst previously working as a Development Engineer for Napier Turbochargers, a company with a long history of involvement with previous speed records. John Cobb used a Napier engine to establish the land speed record of 392.4 mph in 1947, which remained unbroken for 16 years.

For the last 3 years, Jim has been occasionally helping in the test cell of a steam powered land speed record car. This venture included members of the Thrust SSC team, and is due to shortly make an attempt on the World Steam Powered Land Speed Record.
