We are governed by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (International Motorcycling Federation) or FIM rules with regard to the outright motorcycle Land Speed Record (though why there should be rules for an outright record….).
These are as follows:
1. 3,000cc limit
2. piston engine
3. one wheel drive
4. vehicle makes one track
The FIM makes no distinction for engines, but the purists insist on motorcycle-based, or mainly motorcycle parts.
